Do you need a Digital Detox?

There is no doubt about it, we are hooked on our screens. They're useful tools, we see stuff that makes us laugh, we can connect with people important to us. they can also drain us & fill us with a low level anxiety that we're often not aware of.

While we're not saying we should ditch them entirely, at our retreats we encourage a reduced amount of screen time, we do this by filling your days with engaging activities that means you won't even notice the digital detox you're on!

But why do we do this? Here's a few of the reasons we encourage this:

Detox retreat

Improved Mental Health:

  • Reduces stress & anxiety caused by constant notifications, messages & digital overwhelm.

  • Enhanced mood, by not being constantly on our phones, we can regulate our emotions more effectively without outside input from social media.

  • Quality sleep, by reducing our exposure to blue light from screens, which interferes with sleep patterns, we can get a deeper, better quality sleep each night.

Enhanced Focus & Productivity:

  • Increase concentration, eliminate the distraction of messages & notifications, allowing for better focus.

Stronger Social Connections:

  • A digital detox promotes face-to-face interactions & strengthens real connection with the people you're attending the retreat with.

  • While at the retreat, a lack of screens encourages more meaningful conversations & connections with others.

Physical Benefits:

  • Can reduce eye strain, as we reduce screen time, we reduce the strain it places on our eyes.

  • As personal trainers we come across a postural deviation called Kyphosis almost daily, a curvature of the upper spine, the way we hold phones promotes this poor posture. By cutting down on screen time, we minimize our time spent in this position,

Neurochemical Effects:

  • Constant notifications & social media use trigger dopamine release, creating a cycle of dependency. Reducing usage helps rebalance dopamine levels.

  • Digital overload can increase cortisol levels, the body’s primary stress hormone. A detox can help lower cortisol levels, combined with all the other retreat activities, you're on the fast track to a full reset!

So if you think you could use a big break from those pesky screens that's the benefits you can look forward to!
